Birmingham Exploration
Hello all! Air Canada still sux...as a last kick in the pants, one of their first flights to be up and running on Tuesday out of YHZ was late leaving the gate and so caused my United connection to EWR to be delayed...so I just barely made it to that gate after they had already called my group to board. After that though it was smooth sailing, er, flying to Heathrow, through passport control, picked up my big suitcase, straight onto the Elizabeth Line to Tottenham Court Rd, change onto the Northern Line to Euston station, then caught the train to Birmingham New Street Station and arrived at my Air BNB around 10am Wednesday. There were some things to sort out but I've done that and been to the University Molecular Sciences Building for my lab induction and started the process to get my U of B credentials so I can open all the doors in the building. I'll continue that process this week and soon will get down to some lab work so those updates are coming later. But today was a bank holiday so I explored the city a little bit. Very near where I'm staying is the Canalside Walk, it's lovely.
And not a long walk to Black Sabbath Bridge, that goes over the canal. The tributes are still coming:
In fact, the whole town is still paying tribute to Ozzy. Here in front of the Museum and art gallery are information signs about their tours and albums. There's also an exhibit called "Ozzy Osbourne, Working Class Hero" going on until the end of September. I didn't want to be inside today since it was so nice outside, but will check it out before it leaves:
We are not amused...
Ozzy the Bull was built for the Commonwealth Games, then was dismantled and reassembled here at New Street Station. He's a big boy:
Ended the day with some fish n' chips at Shakespeare's pub near the station. More pictures coming soon! Leave your comments below.
